We are all afraid of something. Some of us are afraid of many things. When those fears affect us physically as well as mentally, they are classified as phobias. Common symptoms of a phobic reaction include nausea, dizziness, increased heart rate, and difficulty breathing. Phobias can also worsen preexisting conditions with could pose a serious threat to one’s health. There are many different phobias as there are people, but the one thing they all have in common is that the object of fear is external; a part of the environment. Here is a list of common phobias that people suffer from, so that you know how to identify and avoid them.
Agoraphobia – The Fear of People
Many of us feel awkward when thrust into social situations, and often feel nervous when meeting someone new. Those that suffer from agoraphobia feel absolute terror at having to interact with other human beings. In extreme cases, this can cause them to shut themselves into their homes, refusing to come out.
Arachnophobia – Fear of Spiders.
Many of us dislike spiders.some of us are deathly afraid of them. Arachnophobia often stems from a previous traumatic event involving spiders. This most usually comes from a serious spider bite. While most people will kill a spider they see in their homes, those with a phobia of spiders will avoid them whenever possible.
Acrophobia – The Fear of Heights
Another common phobia involves the fear of heights. Those who suffer from Acrophobia experience acute discomfort at being in elevated places. Common consequences of this phobia include vertigo, and extreme difficulty flying.
These are three of the most common phobias that afflict the human race. With a strong constitution and professional help, many phobias can be managed, or even overcome, if necessary.
