What Are Employee Assistance Services Programs?

Supporting Gold Coast employers and employees for 30 Years

For over three decades, PRA has been proudly serving the Gold Coast community providing mental health support for individuals, couples, and businesses.

We focus on enhancing employee wellbeing and helping businesses build a more positive, supportive workplace culture. In turn this helps improve productivity, engagement and retention.

An effective EAP is tailored to meet the needs of the organisation and therefore PRA will liaise with your key staff to develop a program that best meets your needs. The standard program of offering counselling sessions can be extended to include other workplace wellbeing initiatives such as in house training programs, outlined further below.

Unlike many large EAP providers who rely on recent graduates, our EAP team is comprised of experienced male and female psychologists with a minimum of 10 years’ experience. We have flexible appointment options, including Saturday appointments, and competitive pricing aligned with Queensland WorkCover rates.

Let us help you take care of your people — a healthy workplace is a thriving workplace.

What Are Employee Assistance Programs?

EAPs involve the provision of a limited number of free confidential counselling sessions for employees by external providers, funded by their employer (usually 2 to 4 sessions). Sometimes this program is extended to immediate family members. EAPs are provided by external Psychologists who are independent of the employer, and do not share information.

The aim of EAPs is to intervene early and ideally resolve both work and non-work (personal) problems that may adversely affect performance at work, and quality of life. Issues that commonly impede optimal performance include stress, anxiety, depression, grief, financial and legal issues, interpersonal conflict, relationship difficulties, family challenges, and lifestyle issues (including substance use and gambling). The cost of these factors if unresolved includes absenteeism, decreased efficiency and productivity, increased accidents, staff conflict, staff turnover, lowered morale, and increased compensation claims.

Sometimes these problems are short-term problems and can be easily resolved with the help of family and close friends. Occasionally, a problem may persist and cause problems during work and everyday life. The advice and support of a professional Psychologist can help stop these problems developing into a more serious issues and potentially prevent the secondary problems affecting performance at work.

Further Information for Employees including Confidentiality

When you make contact with PRA we will clarify the EAP program offered by your employer, including how many sessions are allowed under your EAP. Psychologists are bound by a code of ethics and therefore EAP consultations are strictly confidential. Information is only shared if you provide written consent for information to be discussed with a supervisor or another nominated person.

  • The difference between having 50% of staff return to work after injury and a much higher percentage can amount to significant cost to an organisation.
